About Project

At the Eurovision Song Contest, each country presents itself not only through music. The Eurovillage hosts a cultural space where European countries exchange traditions and stories.

In 2023, together with the Ukrainian Association of Music Events (UAME), we developed an identity to represent Ukraine — its history, music, and people. The goal of the installation was not only to entertain, but also to share the experience of war and convey how significant Ukrainian culture is to the world — from the globally known Christmas hit Shchedryk to contemporary Ukrainian music video creators.

Eurovision 2023 took place in Liverpool, as Ukraine, despite winning the contest, continues to face a full-scale war. That is why our story must be seen, heard, and felt by the whole world.

Idea

The central art object of the installation was the viburnum (kalyna). It is one of the most widespread symbols in Ukrainian folk art and literature, representing the homeland.

The key visual elements of the identity were the geometric berries of the viburnum and its leaves. Together, they formed a grid that allowed us to generate various national patterns, highlighting our identity among other international participants.

Thanks all!
